{"id":6249,"date":"2020-07-25T15:32:00","date_gmt":"2020-07-25T12:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hiiufolk.ee\/?p=6249"},"modified":"2021-07-10T15:35:07","modified_gmt":"2021-07-10T12:35:07","slug":"hiiu-folk-is-steadily-alkohol-free","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hiiufolk.ee\/fi\/hiiu-folk-is-steadily-alkohol-free\/","title":{"rendered":"HIIU FOLK IS STEADILY ALKOHOL-FREE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>According to Astrid N\u00f5lvak, the Director of the 15th Hiiu Folk, which ended on Sunday, once again the keywords of the festival were security and family-oriented, and the fact that the event is alcohol-free sets and will continue to set the framework in the future.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMusicians and many, many visitors say that we are doing the right thing \u2013 that it is so good to be in a place where there are no drunk people or abandoned mugs around and everything else you usually see at festivals,\u201d said N\u00f5lvak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stefan Timmermans<\/strong> from the Belgian duo \u2018Madingma\u2019 said honestly that he felt anxious on stage. \u201cIt was my first non-alcoholic festival! \u2013 he said. &#8211; But it was perfectly okay \u2013 and everything is good for music. Wonderful festival \u2013 a lot of children having fun, people were very peaceful and relaxed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Swedish violinist <strong>Daniel Wikslund<\/strong> said that he was surprised by how closely the audience here watched what was happening on stage. \u201cI want to spread the word all over the world and tell everyone that they should come to \u2018Hiiu Folk\u2019,\u201d said Wikslund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"http:\/\/hiiufolk.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Hiiu-Folk-2019-1000x563-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hiiufolk.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Hiiu-Folk-2019-1000x563-1.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/hiiufolk.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Hiiu-Folk-2019-1000x563-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hiiufolk.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Hiiu-Folk-2019-1000x563-1-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>15th Hiiu Folk offered the audience particularly rich program full of lovely meetings, educational nature trips and workshops, peeks into places that would not otherwise be visited and, of course, extremely good concerts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201eThere is no need to wait until \u2019Viljandi Folk\u2019 comes, because \u2018Hiiu Folk\u2019 is already unwinding!\u201c said Minister of Culture <strong>T\u00f5nis Lukas<\/strong> at the opening of the festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the third year in a row, the sunny weather contributed to the success of the festival. This time \u2018Hiiu Folk\u2019 started in S\u00f5ru boat shed and it also brought people from the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe arrived at the port and discovered that there was a festival here that we had not participated in, &#8211; said one sailor. \u2013 The next day we sailed to Orjaku harbour instead. We took our bikes, came to Kassari swing ground and saw that we could party without alcohol!\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the concerts, the festival guests had the opportunity to visit places introduced by the family members themselves: Mihkel Valdma, the owner of the Vaemla wool factory, showed how sheep\u2019s wool yarn can be made; Peeter Paemurru, the owner of Putkaste manor, told guests about the manor\u2019s multi-faceted history from the Stackelbergs to the state farm and the agricultural school. They got acquainted with the former courthouse of K\u00e4rdla, or <em>Ave Vita<\/em>, where the guests were received by the poet Ave Alavainu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Songs were sung with <strong>Valter Parve<\/strong> in the cosy Kassari Community Centre. Stunning musical experiences were born in small places: in Suurem\u00f5isa Castle, the Brazilian musician Eduardo Agni showed what can be enchanted by a single guitar, in the Kassari chapel accordionist Maimu J\u00f5geda gave a breath-taking concert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the way to Vohilaid, the participants were surprised by the oldest resident of Hiiumaa, 102-year-old nimble Liidia Piilberg, welcoming everyone as her dearest guests in her farmyard; the hikers themselves were surprised to break a family waltz in the middle of the sea, accompanied by a melody of reed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The performance of the morning forest in the habitat of the European mink will remain for a long time in the soul of those who visited the Vanaj\u00f5gi Valley, guided by the biologist Tiit Maran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grateful students were found in the workshops: traditional Estonian and Canadian violin stories were taught by Eeva Talsi and April Verch, Swedish violin stories by Daniel Wikslund, Jew\u2019s harp by C\u00e4tlin M\u00e4gi, harmonica by Rutt Kirikm\u00e4e and Siim Sarv; the latter also taught Estonian dances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On account of a small jubilee, the festival also surprised the audience \u2013 we tried a new place in Ristna Paradise Beach, where the \u2018Total Collapse\u2019 <em>fusion-<\/em>duo, or the drummer of the \u2018Radar\u2019 ensemble Paap K\u00f5lar made his debut performance with his bass player daughter Kelli K\u00f5lar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>T\u00f5nis M\u00e4gi, Mari J\u00fcrjens, Marek Sadam and \u2018Sadamasild\u2019, Nedsaja K\u00fcla B\u00e4nd, \u2018Madingma\u2019, \u2018Curly Strings\u2019 and April Verch \u2013 \u2018The Heritage Project\u2019, \u2018Women in the Kitchen\u2019, \u2018Untsakad\u2019, Olavi K\u00f5rre and Balkan Horo performed on the main venue at Kassari Swing Ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the traditional day of church concerts, Robert and Anti J\u00fcrjendal, the Laikrets family ensemble, Eva V\u00e4ljaots and Tuli Taevast played music. \u2018Robirohi\u2019, \u2018N\u00f5ianeitsid\u2019 and Astrid N\u00f5lvak and Olavi K\u00f5rre finished the festival in K\u00e4ina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201eA lot of things have been tried for 15 years, now we can say that the golden mean has been achieved,&#8221; said Kristjan Arunurm, a long-time organizer of the festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">See you at the next festival!
